Should you choose to arrive early or depart late, you are responsible for your own transport to or from the airport.
This retreat ends on the 28th of January after dinner. Most flights back to the USA are going to be after midnight (so, technically on the 29th), so you will be hanging out with the group until you go to the airport.

these are the activities we have planned during the 10 days:
January 21: Our journey begins at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), where we will have the opportunity to view the renowned royal mummies, whose tombs and temples we will explore throughout our adventure. Following this, we will visit the historic Sultan Hassan and Al Rifa’i mosques, impressive structures built in the 1300s and 1800s. We will conclude our day at the stunning Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), an architectural marvel that has been in development since 2002.
January 22: We will head to Giza to walk among the iconic Sphinx and the Pyramids. Enjoy a camel ride with the magnificent pyramids as your backdrop. Our journey will take us south to Saqqara, where we’ll visit the Step Pyramid, the first pyramid ever constructed. We will explore smaller pyramids and tombs within this expansive complex, followed by an exhilarating exploration of the Bent and Red Pyramids. A delightful lunch awaits us at a local farm.
January 23: We will fly south to Luxor, where our first stop will be the West Bank to explore the Valley of the Kings. Here, the tombs of the pharaohs are adorned with intricate hieroglyphics and vibrant paintings leading us to the burial chamber, where we’ll observe the empty sarcophagus (the mummies will have been seen previously). We’ll also visit the Tombs of the Nobles in a nearby valley to learn about the preparations for the afterlife of Egyptian elites. As an all-female group, we will also visit Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple, the only female pharaoh of ancient Egypt, where the walls tell the story of her contributions to the kingdom.
January 24: Prepare for an unforgettable hot air balloon ride that provides breathtaking views of where the West Bank desert meets the lush farmland nourished by the Nile. We will explore the magnificent temple complex of Karnak and Luxor Temples, along with the colossal statues of the Colossi of Memnon. We will then embark on our cruise along the Nile towards Aswan.
January 25: While cruising up the Nile, we will take in the picturesque scenery from the deck of the ship, surrounded by farmland, palm trees, and warm sunshine. We will visit Edfu Temple in the morning and Kom Ombo Temple, along with the Crocodile Mummy Museum, in the afternoon. Each temple boasts unique hieroglyphics, yet they share a classic design that has stood the test of time. The preservation of these structures is truly remarkable!
January 26: In Aswan, we’ll travel via private motorboat to various destinations, starting with the Philae Temple. Afterward, we’ll cross the Nile for a brief 1.5-mile hike to the Tombs of the Nobles, where we’ll gain exclusive access to the Middle Kingdom tombs. Our journey will then take us upriver to a local Nubian village to experience the local way of life (henna is available here). We’ll wrap up our day with a visit to the vibrant Aswan spice market.
January 27: We will disembark from the cruise ship and take a private bus to Abu Simbel, a major highlight of our trip. Arriving after the crowds, we’ll enjoy the awe-inspiring King Ramses II Temple and his wife Nefertari’s Temple.
January 28: Today, we will return to Aswan for our flight back to Cairo. Please ensure your flight is scheduled for 11 PM or later, extending into the early hours of January 29.
A reminder: your expenses for this retreat exclude flights to and from Cairo, but do include all breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. We cover lodging, activities, transport, etc! This retreat includes a few hopper flights.
