HERE IS An ITINERARY OF THE TRIP (GET READY FOR EXCITEMENT!) SUBJECT TO CHANGES/SHUFFLING ACTIVITIES AROUND.
June 7: Land in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil (GIG) before 1pm, please. Most flights get into Rio in the morning, but no worries if yours does not- you can meet up with the group a bit later if you’re comfortable with that. Into the Wild will provide transportation from GIG airport to the hotel, where we will drop our luggage off and head out on a 35 minute drive to Guanabara Bay for a late afternoon/sunset cruise. We’ll have drinks and snacks and enjoy the gorgeous ocean. After this 3 hour excursion, we will have our first dinner as a group and then rest up for a big week ahead!
June 8: Today we’ll enjoy breakfast at the hotel, and then head into the Tijuca Forest. We’ll take the first Corcovado train of the day (8:20 am) up to Christ the Redeemer. Take in the views before training back down and heading to an early lunch at Parque Lage, a beautiful cafe with views of the statue. From there, let’s enjoy a beach day! We’ll relax on Rio’s iconic Ipanema beach before enjoying a sunset dinner. We’ll finally go back to the hotel and rest up for another day of exploration tomorrow!
June 9: Breakfast, and then we’ll head into the city for a day of urban exploration. We will stop by Escadaria Selaron, then explore and eat lunch in the Santa Teresa neighborhood. We will hit sights like the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Sebastian. We’ll grab a snack at Confeitaria Colombo before heading south to Sugarloaf Mountain, where we will either hike halfway and then hop on the cable car, or just take the cable car all the way up to the top, depending on how we’re feeling. We will catch the sunset up here, grab dinner in the city, and then get some sleep!
June 10: Hotel breakfast or a breakfast on-the-go before our morning flight from Rio to Manaus (flight provided by Into the Wild). We will drop our luggage, and then explore the historical city of Manaus on foot! Today e will see sights such as the Adolpho Lisboa Market, & the Teatro Amazonas. We will enjoy a delicious dinner at La Parilla Grill (a Brazilian steakhouse) and stay in a hotel to rest for our jungle adventure.
June 11: Today begins our Amazon rainforest adventure! We will be going on a 2 day journey in the jungle with an overnight at Juma Floating Lodge. It will be a simple and slightly rustic stay, but we will have A/C and private bathrooms. No intense trekking or camping is required on this adventure! We will have a guide that will take us in a motorized canoe to where the River Negro and Solimoes meet, and we will look for pink river dolphins, fish for piranhas, and watch the sunset. After dinner, we will go cayman spotting in a canoe. We will sleep in our floating cabins tonight.
June 12: This morning we awaken in our floating lodges and head out for a sunrise canoe ride! Then onto a 3.5hr jungle walk to look at plants, birds, and watch for monkeys. We will then begin our 3 hour journey back to Manaus and have dinner as a group before staying in a hotel and resting for another day of jungle adventures tomorrow.
June 13: This morning we will wake up and grab breakfast on the road as we are picked up for a full day adventure in the jungle! Today we enjoy a gorgeous and adventurous waterfall tour. We will swim in two different caves, see Cachoeira da Asframa waterfall, and have a delicious lunch. Plan to be out and about and getting wet all day. We will keep our eyes peeled for monkeys and sloths during our time in the jungle as well! After being dropped off at our hotel, we will get cleaned up and have dinner in Manaus and stay in Manaus one more night.
June 14: Today we will grab coffees and a light breakfast, then have a morning flight from Manaus back to Rio, likely landing in the afternoon. You also have the option of flying straight home from Manaus, booking a one way to Rio at the beginning of the trip and a one way home from Manaus at any time this day (this option is best for ladies who don’t want to spend time flying back to Rio), or you may opt to fly back to Rio (ITW will pay for this) and fly home on one of the many evening flights out of GIG on a round trip ticket. Just ask if you have questions- wendy@itwadventure.com
