This trip is designed to help you rediscover you. This is a combination of a sight-seeing trip and adventurous kayaking trip.

The Stockholm Archipelago is the largest and most varied archipelago in Sweden. It features everything from sandy beaches and expansive islands rich in centuries of history and culture to countless tiny that are wild and uninhabited, aside from birds and the occasional seal. Here, you don’t have to worry about tides, currents, or large swells. For the duration of the kayaking portion (three nights) you’ll be wild camping in tents and enjoying food cooked over the fire! A truly delightful outdoors experience with other women who similarly value nature and fun experiences.

This trip is for you, and women like you. Come as you are and leave as your best self.

Amelia Brame is leading this trip, @thebramesabroad and she is the perfect leader for this experience as she loves fun, is very welcoming, and a natural leader.

Below is the information on what you come away with from this trip.

Sweden Kayaking Adventure Itinerary:

August 28- Arrive/Stockholm

Today you’ll want to arrive in Stockholm by noon (we suggest you train from the airport to the city.) You can self explore or rest until hotel checkin, or join the group as they explore Stockholm’s famous Abba Museum and Djurgarden. The opening dinner is at 6:30pm.

August 29- Stockholm

Today begins with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. Following, we are doing a really fun bike tour of the city center (Optional)! We will have lunch and then do a Floating Sauna experience. Those are so much fun! This is a 5 hours experience on a floating sauna which includes of course a sauna, dips into the water, and food. We will then head back to the hotel and you can rest or check out Stockholm at night on your own!

August 30- Introduction to Stockholm archipelago and kayaking

Today is the day we start our official kayaking adventure! We will be picked up by the kayak outfitting guide company and head to learn all about safety and techniques, etc. We will get all of our equipment and… Time for take-off! In stable two-person kayaks we’ll venture out with the wind in your hair. Soon seabirds and waves are the only sounds we will hear as we leave the mainland behind and kayak eastward towards the myriad of small uninhabited islands further out in the archipelago. We’ll pass by Runmarö, an island first mentioned in Swedish history in the 13th century for the limestone that was mined here. Many of Stockholm's oldest buildings are made from Runmarö Limestone.

In the afternoon, we will look for the perfect campsite for the night among the many small islets The tent and other equipment is easy to get up, and soon we will be ready to cozy up for the night- but perhaps first you’d like a refreshing swim followed by dinner. Food tastes fantastic when you eat in nature! Let the small waves and wind put you to sleep.

August 31- A day in Bullerö Nature reserve

After a nice morning with breakfast and perhaps a morning skinny dip (a “Swedish classic”), we’ll sit together and plan the route. Depending on the weather forecast, this might be the day to go out to Bullerö Nature Reserve.  Bullerö is an archipelago classic, with plenty of bird life, a typical archipelago nature and rich in culture and history. Here, people have been living off what nature has had to offer since the end of the 1600’s.

We’ll stay here and linger for half-a-day-or-so and go on a short discovery hike and/or visit the hunting lodge of Bruno Liljefors, where art from famous Swedish artists Anders Zorn, Axel Sjöberg and Albert Engström from the early 1900’s is on display. Finish the day with a sauna session in the cozy public sauna.

September 1- Möja and the Möja reserves

After breakfast, we will discover the island of Möja and the Möja nature reserve just east of the main island. The cozy village of Berg on Möja is a good place to stop to replenish our snacks supplies and refill water if needed. Take a stroll in the village and enjoy a fika (Swedish coffee break) before continuing toward the Möja Reserve.

With hundreds of small islands in a myriad with nothing but horizon to the east, the Möja Reserve is a cherished place among Swedes and the kayak is the perfect vessel to discover it all. We will find our own island and make it ours for the night.

September 2- Heading back to civilization

Another beautiful morning out on the islands. You will have a different feeling in your body after some days on the water. Calm and focused in your mind and a bit tired in the muscles from the kayaking and hikes on the island. During the day we will stop for a long lunch on an island, and again for an afternoon swim and a cup of coffee. In the late afternoon you arrive back at the Kayak Center. The center staff takes care of all equipment while you can enjoy some snacks, a shower and perhaps a sauna. We will head back to the city and check into the hotel in time to relax a bit before going out for dinner.

September 3- Stockholm/Fly home

There will be various departure times- but generally, breakfast will be at hotel before people depart back the the airport.

Refund policy: Your ticket can be sold but not refunded. You can advertise to sell your ticket yourself, and we will post it on our instagram as well, should you not be able to attend.

All rooms/tents are shared occupancy. No private rooms are available. This is key to the Into the Wild experience.

In Sweden, there is a rule called Right of Public Access. This is a statutory right that allows all people to cross, stay and wild camp in nature, even if the land is privately owned. However, you cannot do whatever you like. You have an obligation to take care of and be careful with the environment. This means, for example, that you are allowed to camp on an island owned by someone, but that you must not cut down trees, damage plants or animals, or otherwise make visible signs that you were there. Pretty interesting, right?
