Japan II: October 17-26, 2024

Into the Wild is a chance to take a moment for you. To dive deep into your wild woman self. To rediscover the wonder and beauty of both earth’s nature and YOUR nature. To gain the experience of seeing other cultures and other humans living life differently than you do.

Welcome to Japan! This country is on the top of my favorite places to visit- and for many reasons. Yet- so many women never do visit! I believe it’s because Japan can be very expensive, intimidating, and still has that exotic stereotype that keeps people feeling unsure if they can travel there on their own.

Japan is a gorgeous and culturally rich destination. Yes, it can be very expensive, but I’ve created this trip with the intention of making it a trip of a lifetime while keeping it luxury feeling yet as low in cost as I could. I want us all to immerse ourselves in all things Japanese- sights, sounds, tastes, and experiences.

So- instead of wondering “Where should I go? What should you see? How can I make the most of my time there?”, let me show you how to see the best of what Japan has to offer in 9 days.

On this trip, we will spend time in the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Nikko. We will eat food that will blow your mind! We will see temples and shrines and gorgeous scenery, and even delve into the quirkiness and weirdness that Tokyo has to offer.

I would be honored for you to join me, so if Japan has been on your bucket list, let’s check it off now!

Please read all the way through this page for all the information.

Join us and rediscover your inner wild woman! Do you love learning about other rich cultures? Has exploring Japan and eating delicious food been on your bucket list? What about bullet trains and futuristic landscapes followed by ultra-historical experiences that will blow your mind?

Cost for Japan is $3599 per person for 9 nights. All lodging, all meals and excursions during the retreat are included except your flights from your home to Tokyo, and rooms are shared occupancy. Please read below for details:

  1. This retreat includes all transportation EXCEPT: You must buy your own 7 day Japan Rail Pass. This is something I will help you with beforehand- the reason it’s not included is because it must be mailed to your home and brought to Japan in exchange for an actual rail pass. This would be a bit challenging for me to do for everyone since it must go to your own home beforehand. I’ll provide exact instructions on how to do this.

  2. This retreat includes a few meals where you may be placed in front of adventurous foods. You don’t have to eat anything out of your comfort zone, but just be aware that food is a big part of this trip and you may encounter several foods you’ve never thought of eating before :)

  3. Arriving in Tokyo: You can fly into either Tokyo Airport. I can provide either exact directions on how to get to the hotel via train or I can meet you. We will make a plan beforehand!

  4. Please ask if you have any questions. I’m reachable at wendy@intothewildphotocamp.com

these are the activities we have planned during the 8 days:

October 17th: Arrive in Tokyo and get together with the group. We will eat together and rest up.

October 18th: Sight see around Tokyo. We will hit the major Must-Do’s including temples, markets and more. We will have a phenomenal food tour in the evening and drop into bed fully satisfied from our awesome day!

October 19th: Visit the famous Fish Market. Explore famous Ueno Park. Visit the Harajuku district and visit one of the many crazy cafes. Finish up the best of the best in Tokyo and get a good night’s rest.

October 20th: Travel by railway to Kyoto, one of my favorite cities in the world! Drop luggage at hotel and start sight seeing. We will visit the Golden Pavilion, the Ryon-ji Temple, and wander around markets and parks. Have dinner, and rest up for an early morning.

October 21st: Early morning Bamboo forest walk. Take a walking tour of Gion, the historic geishsa district. See the rest of Kyoto’s sights and sleep.

October 22nd: Depart Kyoto and head to Hiroshima, a 2.5 hour train ride. Upon arrival, we will visit the Atomic Bomb museum to acknowledge some important history (optional).

October 23rd: We will wander and eat and discover and then head to Miyajima, an island accessible by 10 minute ferry, to enjoy nature and take a cable car to the peak of the mountain to take in the view.

October 24th: Leave Hiroshima and head back to Tokyo. This is a 4.5 hour train ride. When we get back to Tokyo, you’ll have free time until dinner to wander as you please and get all the sightseeing and shopping done. We will eat dinner together and have more free time after dinner.

October 25th: Day trip to Nikko! Nikko is a beautiful, historic and peaceful place, away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Nikko has a national park and we will have a blast taking in all the beauty. Back to Tokyo for sleep.

October 26th This is the day we all leave. We will eat breakfast and depart via subways and trains to the airport. Please note that the retreat officially ends at 10am, and though I will absolutely help you get to the airport on time, etc, I’ll be leaving at a different time than you and won’t be traveling to the airport with you. We will figure it out together!

A reminder: your expenses for this retreat exclude flights to and from Japan, but do include all breakfasts and lunches, and dinners. We cover lodging, activities, etc! You are responsible for buying your own 7 day Japan Rail Pass (around $225 USD). Contact me before buying so I can give you exact instructions.
